some very kind words from the fantastic Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl!
Hello All! We’re very busy with weddings this month, as well as a ton of grad parties. If you have tried to place a special order and have been denied, we apologize. We do everything in our power to take every order we get asked to do, but we are a tiny shop and can only do so much. Thank you for understanding and please think of us in the future.
Other news:
Sheela has been working hard to come up with some new exciting flavors. Two new ones this week were French Strawberry (vanilla cake with strawberry fennel compote and goat cheese frosting) and our White Mystery this week which was vanilla cake with a canteloupe filling and light fresh mint buttercream. Both were a success and quite delicious.
All summer we will continue to offer new and exciting lemonade offerings. Emily has experimented with basil, rhubarb, and ginger, as well as berries, and adding in some of our delicious Intelligentsia iced teas.
Please stop by soon to enjoy some treats on our outdoor kid and dog friendly patio.
Thanks,
Cake Ladies

We heart Metro Magazine! Another great write up:
Recipe for one delectable bakery:
-2 friendly, sassy friends, preferably in their late-twenties to early-thirties (must have good sense of humor and fresh take on their craft)
-1 vacant shop located in a supportive community
-30 years of combined cooking and baking experience
-Plenty of loving friends and family members
-A splash of color and humor
Directions:
Allow the two friends and 30 years experience to simmer for about a year. Mid-simmer, add in the shop. Once the shop has been successfully mixed in, gently stir in the friends and family. Add the splash of color and humor to entire mixture and allow it to settle. Then, on Saturday, April 3, uncover the mixture to find Cake Eater Bakery: the clever brainchild of Sheela Namakkal and Emily Moore Harris, and your newest addiction.

Metro Magazine gave us a really great write up this month! Check it out.
Sheela Namakkal has what she calls a “sleeve of pastry”: a tattoo covering her entire arm that celebrates all things baking, from a Kitchen Aid mixer to a cookie-dough devil in a flaming chocolate chip rainstorm. It’s appropriate ink for a cupcake baker whose creations, under the nom-de-flour Miel y Leche, have recently been available only at a downtown frame shop and a West Bank a punk rock bar. But not for long: Later this month Namakkal and partner Emily Harris will open Cake Eater, a bakery and coffee shop in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. “Think Marie Antoinette wearing a sari, and you’ll sort of get the idea,” is how she describes the aesthetic.
we are hard at work to get the bakery open for the 5th of april! we are under some deep construction, but we think we are on target for this date! YAY!
but: to get your fix:
we have cupcakes at the usual joints this weekend (triple rock social club, saint paul cheese shop and mitrebox) but we will also be at welna 2 hardware at noon on saturday the 13th and then at FEAST minneapolis, also in the seward neighborhood.
